We are the proud descendants of Matilda and Daniel Townsend (born around 1810).
William C. Horton (aka Willie C.), great-great grandson of Matilda Townsend, began developing the family tree in the 1980's by collecting information from documents and family members. In the mid 90's, Marva Daniels, the wife of Marvin Daniels, the great-great-great grandson of Matilda Townsend, continued the research in building the tree and uncovering the historical facts of the family until her passing in 2004. The names at the bottom of the page were the start of the family tree on this website.
Back in 2012, Gena Townsend continued work on the family tree. She created a paper model of the family tree which she presented at several of the family reunions. The paper model stretched around the room. Also, the paper model allowed family members to write in the names of family members in order to bring the tree up to date. The family tree took a digital form in 2016 when Bennie Harold Horton created the family tree at MyHeritage.com from Gena Townsend's paper model. The Townsend & Rogers family tree on MyHeritage.com can be accessed at www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-212754911/townsend-rogers-family-tree?familyTreeID=1 . The digital format allows the family tree to be easily searched and updated. In order to update the family tree, you have to get permission from Bennie Harold. You can email him at bennie.h.horton@gmail.com and request permission to update the family tree. We would like to thank Gena and Bennie Harold for their hard work on the family tree. Now family members, let us all bring it up to date!
